Partnerships and projects at JU
Jimma University is working with numerous international partners on several projects. The campus is welcoming considerable number of incoming visitors and similarly its staff members are travelling abroad for conferences, workshops, short term trainings, mobility programs, research and to meet with new and existing partners.
Currently the institution is actively involved with several international partners from different parts of the world. JU has a long history and experience in initiating collaboration with educational, research and other kinds of institutions, in realizing joint projects and utilizing opportunities for partnership. The university signed more than 100 MoU’s with such partners and considerable numbers of project are being managed with them.
Most of JU’s partner universities are from Europe and especially Belgium, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Germany followed by universities from the USA. The numbers of Asian partners are also rapidly growing as more South Korean and Chinese universities are engaging with JU. The involvement of Korean institutions like KOFIH, KOICA and KoHI with JU on various capacity building and health service related projects is a remarkable achievement for JU in expanding the spheres of its international engagement.
JU has clear policy of working with motivated partners through a mutually beneficial framework agreement and in areas that would help all actors to achieve their goals. Anything is possible when two partners meet with the clear intention of promoting scientific knowledge and the sharing of diverse experiences. Partnership could start from any point and may grow in terms of its breadth and impact to achieve the goals set by its stakeholders.
The major areas for collaboration with international research and educational institutions include:
- Undertaking of joint research activities and publications
- Exchange of faculty members for undertaking research, delivering lectures, and participating in academic discussions
- Organizing joint workshops, courses and scientific conferences on common areas of interest
- Joint application for external project funding opportunities to promote staff and students mobility and staff capacity building
- Collaboration in teaching and learning, curriculum development, services to the community and research
- development of new joint masters and PhD programs in fields of interest
- Institutional capacity building and sharing of facilities and resources
- Promote exchange of information, materials and scientific information in fields of interest
- Collaboration on other educational initiatives and scientific research endeavors mutually agreed upon with partners
