Call for Proposals on COVID-19 (To: All Interested Staff Members of Jimma University)

The COVID-19 pandemic has huge health, economic, social, political, cultural, behavioral, and other impacts. To enhance the prevention and control of the pandemic, Jimma University has arranged a special research and innovation grant scheme. To this end, proposals from different fields of study and from multidisciplinary team are highly encouraged. The University invites and encourages researchers, innovators and developers to submit proposals individually or (preferably) in team-based approach on:

Virtual meeting held on the Internationalization of Higher Education in Ethiopia

 A virtual meeting is held on the preparation for launching of Forum of International Offices of Ethiopian Universities and on the formulation of national policy and strategy document that guides the internationalization efforts of the institutions.

Probable Impacts of COVID-19 on Ethiopian Agriculture

The COVID-19 pandemic outbreak is said to bring impact on the various sectors of the economy across the globe. Anticipating and mitigating the possible disruptions the pandemic may trigger is an issue at stake. Scholars in various disciplines are conducting expert analysis on the probable impacts of the global pandemic in various sectors, and are putting forward the mitigation/adaptation strategies.

JU to resume virtual teaching and learning

Jimma University has been working on an alternative way to perform its core activities while engaging actively in the prevention and containing of the spread of the virus from the time the pandemic was nationally announced. The University held several discussions with its academic and administrative staff on the issues pertaining to the fight against COVID-19 and running its core academic, research and community service activities amidst the pandemic.

JU finalizing Multilingual Mobile and Web Applications to aid the fight against COVID-19

Jimma University ICT Directorate Application Development Team is finalizing the development of multilingual mobile and web applications as part of the initiative to deal with the pandemic through innovative ways.       
The Mobile application is said to assist in tracking and identifying suspected cases, categorized care reporting and visualization, self-assessment targeted at helping individuals seek the right assistance from health centers and professionals, and news feeds. 

JU scaling up its effort to fight the COVID-19 pandemic

JU’s president held discussions with senior Professors and Researchers in the University on how to scale-up the preparedness for prevention and containing of COVID-19. A Research and Innovation team has been established to lead the efforts through scientific and innovative means. The participants appreciated the activities of the task-force so far and promised to increase their engagement in scaling-up the efforts
