About JUCAVM

Jimma University College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine (JUCAVM) was established in 1952 as Jimma Agricultural Technical School (JATS) in collaboration with Oklahoma State University. In 1999 Jimma College of Agriculture (JCA) amalgamated to Jimma Institute of Health Sciences (JIH; founded in1983) as co-founders of Jimma University. JUCAVM is dedicated to advancing agricultural development through training, knowledge generation and service delivery in Ethiopia and beyond. The college trains at graduate and undergraduate levels in broad areas of agriculture and veterinary medicine. Currently, JUCAVM runs over 10 bachelor programs, 24 master programs and 8 PhD programs. It has over 4000 student population, over 200 academic and over 550 administrative staffs. It runs educational programs in regular, in-service, bega, weekend, distance and on location. We have labour market and industry oriented flexible programs. JUCAVM has a green and beautiful campus with smart class rooms, well-equipped laboratories, green houses and farms. We collaborate with local, regional and international organizations. We hosted over 10 donor funded projects and partnering with numerous international institutions for teaching, research and community services. Some of our  international partners are from USA, Netherlands, Belgium, Canada, Germany, Austria, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, South Africa etc. The college upholds the values of educational relevance, transparency, social accountability, gender sensitivity, equity, community participation and empowerment.  JUCAVM aspires to be one of the premier agricultural and veterinary medicine institutes in Africa and renowned in the world and thereby contributing its share to the realization of Jimma University’s vision by 2025.  Our educational philosophy is “we are in the community” where we engage community in our training programs, research activities and community services. JUCAVM comprises of six Departments in the fields of agriculture and one school namely, Horticulture and Plant Sciences, Animal Sciences, Natural Resource Management,  Agricultural Economics & Agribusiness Management, Rural Development & Agricultural Extension, Food Science and Post- harvest Technology, and School of Veterinary Medicine.
