JU inaugurates the Jimma Medical Center and other grand facilities and held the First Round Graduation for the academic year

JU on 8th December 2018 inaugurates the Jimma Medical Center and other facilities such as the JU Civic Center, JU sports Academy and the JU Conference Center in the presence of H.E Dr. Abiy Ahmed FDRE Priminster,   Mr. Ismael Omar Gulleh, President of the Republic of Djbouti, and Mr. Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir, President of the Republic of Sudan, Mr. Lemma Megersa, President of Oromiya Regional State, Ministers, Ambassadors, many other delegates & dignitaries.

Prof. Fikre Lemessa, President of Jimma University on the occasion congratulated the graduates on their success to complete their studies and he also thanked their families and teachers at the University for extending all the necessary supports to bring the graduates all the way to this bright day.  Today, according to him can be marked as a special day for JU because four major service delivering and educational faculties are being inaugurated. A hospital with 800 bed capacity and arts of the day medical equipments and facilities targeting 20, million people in the South West Region, a Civic Center with the capacity to accommodate 6,000 people & host multipurpose sports and art events, a Conference Center of 4500 capacity crowd, with cafeteria & small conference rooms and Sports Academy with a stadium of 40,000 seats and other sports fields for basket ball, hand ball, ground tennis, athletics, a swimming pool of international standard and others. He underlined that JU will further engage in various development activities to achieve its vision of being a leading higher education institution in the country, greater in Africa & respected in the world  & provide all the necessary services to the surrounding communities and beyond.  

The FDRE priminster Dr. Abiy Ahmed on his part warmly congratulated the graduates for their  successful accomplishments of the first chapter of their educational career as they have long way  ahead. He also congratulated the families of the graduates for raising & supporting & their teachers for training such dedicated & energetic young graduates for their country.

He further stated that to be a medical doctor is the dream and vision of many Ethiopian children which shows that highest value and respect attached to the profession by our fellow citizens. We as a people like our medical doctors to possess the qualities of wisdom and leadership. We require your unreserved and utmost commitment to achieve the aims and goals set in the health sector. You are the one to spearhead all the required tasks of aware our citizens on how to lead a healthy long life by maintaining a healthy environment and personal hygiene. We would like you to be imbued with the old celebrated ethos of the health profession which are delivering maximum care to patients, transferring knowledge to others and researching towards new scientific discovery in the field. This will help to fulfill the major requirements of health services delivery in the modern world which are success and effectiveness. As a medical doctor you need to be open enough to support each other, share your knowledge, and collaborate in to new horizons of knowledge and bridge knowledge from the past with modern science. He also called   the graduates to be catalyst of change in the process of the transition that their country is undergoing. Saying this he invited H.E Mr. Albasir and H.E Mr. Ismail to the stage and both of them forwarded congratulatory remarks to the graduates of the day.

On the occasion of the graduation of Mr. Buruk Woldemichael, Senior Director for Students Affairs Office invited respective deans of Colleges and faculties to lead the academic process and present their graduates and outstanding students for award. Present on the academic process was also H.E Hirut Woldemariam, Minister of Science and Higher Education. She on the occasion passed congratulatory remarks and awarded medals and certificates to outstanding students from various fields of studies.

According to Dr. Adula Bekele, V/P for Academic of JU, at the very marvelous  first round graduation ceremony of the academic year JU graduated a total of 2679 students of which 1029 are at undergraduate level, 505 at post graduate level, 1145 post graduate diploma and 4 at PHD level from various disciplines. From the graduates 338 are medical doctors.
