JU Celebrates the 2019 New Year Eve with its Expatriate Staff

31st of December 2018: the last evening of the old year, has brought together all expatriate staff and Senate members Jimma University to welcome the new year with a positive spirit. Like the past so many years the celebration was colorful and exciting. The composition staff members’ representing the cultures of their home country made the event an awesome show of diversity.
The celebration started with a New Year message from Dr. Adula Bekele V/P for Academics, who admired the contributions of the expat staff towards making the University an arena of international diversity in the passing year.  He wished all a happy and prosperous New Year, and concluded his remark expressing that JU is always committed to making itself a home to all its staff living away from their country and family. It is the culture of JU to celebrate the eve of the New Year every year, and that is one indication of the University’s effort to make JU a home for everyone. 
The celebration of the eve was decorated with quiz contests, cultural performances and cake cutting and fireworks. The quiz competition focused on general questions pertinent to Jimma University, Ethiopia, and Arts and Music. The celebration hosted an exciting Chinese flute performance following a brief presentation on Chinese Culture, and involved music and performance from the Indian team that reflected the rich and diversified culture of the country. 
The exhilarating event of the New Year celebration was concluded with the New Year’s cake cutting ceremony performed by female staff members, and families of the expatriate staff followed by fireworks.
