JU organizes a Workshop on Medical, Life and Chemical Sciences

Jimma University in collaboration with the University of Rennes in France organized a workshop entitled “Medical, Life and Chemical Sciences.” The workshop was held from 3rd – 4th May, 2016 at Jimma University Big Senate Hall and attended by four renowned professors from the University of Rennes I In France and staff members of Jimma University. It was aimed at bringing together scholars from the two institutions in the areas of medical and natural sciences to promote scientific exchange and sharing of experience. It is also expected to serve as a forum to strengthen networking between scholars from the two institutions and open rooms for joint research projects and academic exchange.
A total of 15 papers were presented in the areas of Leishmaniasis, medicinal plants, natural products and others as part of promoting scientific exchange and indicating areas for future joint research projects between the two institutions.
Present on the occasion and the guest of honor of the event was Professor Fikre Lemessa who in his opening speech stressed on the importance of the workshop in taking the already established partnership between the two institutions a step forward and to the next level at both individual and institutional levels. He traced the initiation of partnership between the two institutions back to April 2013, when team of delegate form JU visited the University of Rennes I and signed an MoU. Since then the two institutions are communicating on continuous basis and some members of the University of Rennes I also visited JU.
He in his statement also admired the workshop for bringing different disciplines and pool of professionals with various research findings in to a stage. He further stated that, this will obviously help in blending research findings from different perspectives and to come up with joint research ideas between the scholars in the two institutions.
The Workshop was followed by a visit to several laboratory and research facilities at JU and the JU Teaching and Referral Hospital. An agreement was also signed by the presidents of JU to promote students mobility between the two universities especially in the areas of medical Sciences. Finally, both parties pledged to strengthen the collaboration between the two institutions by expanding the areas of activities in to other areas of interests.
