Jimma University signs MOU with Sector Development Study and Research of Ministry of Culture and Tourism

November 9, 2017: Jimma University signs a memorandum of understanding with Ministry of Culture and Tourism’s Sector Development Study and Research Directorate. The agreement is targeted at cementing strong linkage that results in mutual benefit among Universities engaged in training and research pertinent to culture and tourism, technical and vocational training institutes, research institutes and industries. The MOU was signed by the V/president for Business and Development, Ato Kora Tushune from Jimma University’s side, and Ato Desta Lorenso who represented the office from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Several university officials including V/ president for Research and Community Services, Director for Research, Director for University-Industry linkage from Jimma University, and officers from Jimma Zone and Town Culture and Tourism, and director of Technical and Vocational training center were among the participants in the discussion conducted at the event. The MOU is believed to enable Jimma University materialize its goal of building a strong university-industry linkage. The agreement between the parties would function as a document of reference for the sub-regional forum. Jimma University is one of the six higher leaning institutions (representing the western sub-region) with which the Ministry chose to work with in order coordinate, lead and supervise the activities stipulated in the document. As per the MOU signed, then, Jimma University will coordinate and collaboratively work with other Universities, Technical and Vocational training centers and regional/town culture and tourism offices in the western sub-region.
