Residency Program in Ophthalmology (Specialty Certificate)

Admission:

  • MD or MBCHB degree or equivalent from recognized institution
  • Age < 35 years and with normal stereoscopic vision
  • Two years of work experience as general practitioner (added advantage)
  • Passing the entrance exam (for local applicants)
  • Certificate of professional licensing and registration from responsible authority (for foreign applicants)

Duration of Study: 4 Year

Annual Intake Capacity:  6

  • The curricula is adapted from International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO)
  • At present 8 ophthalmic residents  are on training

Promotion with in the Program  (Requirements)
Successful completion of the activities in each year program and

  • Minimum of 70% or above grade on year final examination
  • Rate of good or above in the tutor report of his / her clinical performance
  • Recommendations of the department

Repeat Examination

  • If the grade is between 60-70% and/or the tutor report of clinical performance is less than good and accepted by the department council.
  • The resident will be allowed to repeat the year if he/she fails to score 70% in the year final exam.
  • The resident will be allowed to repeat for 6 month if he/she fails to score 70% in the Final Qualifying Exam.
  • A resident will be allowed to repeat for 6 month if he/she couldn’t produce and substantially acceptable research paper.

Dismissal and Withdrawal:

  • Academic dismissal:  A candidate with less than 60% grade on first year program  
  • Dismissal on other grounds like disciplinary grounds and withdrawal and readmission matters will follow the University rules and regulations.

Graduation:

  • The trainee shall be allowed for graduation after he/she finished the whole academic year with at least a minimum requirement and the department has fully recommended it.
