Master’s in Public Management (Regular, Evening and Weekend)

The Master of Public Management (MPM) programme is designed to benefit and tap theexperiences of practitioners currently working in the Ethiopian public service and from otherorganizations. The programme also targets public servants and other interested individualsfrom other countries in the region and beyond. It is also prepared to produce academiciansand researchers for public and private higher learning institutions. As a needs-basedprogramme, it enables students to acquire requisite knowledge and skills to improve theirperformance in public service and develop insights and skills needed to plan, formulate, execute policy, as well as to monitor and evaluate. The programme has been developed inconsultation with the key stakeholders in Ethiopia’s public service, namely the Ministry of civilservice and other public sector organizations including higher learning institutions.

 Objective

The Objectives of the Department of Public Management is to produce competent and
dedicated public managers and academicians in the field of public Management and policy. To achieve this, it will provide a balanced education that combines strong-specialization consisting of courses from closely related field of studies.

Admission Requirements

To qualify for admission in MPM program, a candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Must possess first degree in Public management, Public administration, Law, Development studies, Urban Management, Political Science, Management, Economics, Accounting, Business Education, Sociology and other related fields from accredited university or college.
  • Must have a minimum of two years of experience after completion of her/his first degree
  • Must successfully pass the entrance examinations of the college/department
  • Must follow the application procedure determined by the office of the Registrar of the university/College

 Graduate Profile

The master’s program in public management aims to equip the would be graduates with both theoretical as well as practical competency that enable them lead through inspiration towards
achieving government development plan. It also targets at preparing academicians and researchers for the Higher learning Education Institutions. Upon successful completion of the
Masters Program in Public Management, the graduates will acquire different competencies and skills which would enable them to find career opportunities in government, NGO and private sector organizations as well as bilateral and multilateral organizations as public servants or as consultants/ advisors and researchers.

Duration ofStudy

The program will be completed in a period of 2 years comprising four semesters including
practical exposition (Development Team Training Program) and thesis writing.
Graduation Requirements

In order to qualify for graduation, students are required to:

  • Complete two years of full-time study including internship assignments
  • Successfully complete all courses with no more than one C and “F, D” Grades
  • Have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.00
  • Have demonstrated successful completion of acceptable Master Thesis with a minimum grade of “C+”.
