Jimma University graduated a total of 931 (801 males and 130 females) students in various fields of study with a colorful graduation ceremony held at the Main Campus mini stadium on Saturday 20 October 2012.
The University graduated students both from undergraduate and postgraduate programs. This year the College of Public Health and Medical Sciences took the highest share of graduates; a total of 297 out of which 143 are Medical doctors and Dental doctors (dentistry).
Dr. Fikre Lemessa, the president of Jimma University and guest of honor of the occasion handed over degrees to the graduates and prizes for high achievers. In his speech Dr. Fikre emphasized on the responsibility awaiting the graduates, especially the medical doctors by stating that in a country where one doctor is for thousands of people their responsibility is not an easy one. At the end the President wished all the best for the graduates in their future career and also reminded the graduates to join the university’s Alumni Association and to strengthen their attachment with their mother university.
Moreover, the annual report of the University was presented on the occasion by Dr. Taye Tolamariam, the Vice President for Academics, Research and Student affairs. Dr. Taye mentioned the outstanding performance of Jimma University in 2004 academic year and indicated that our university has stood first amongst the Higher Education Institutions of Ethiopia for the third time in a row.
