The 5th ETMA ceremony, the most coveted award in Mechanical Engineering Department of Jimma Institiute of Technology - JIT, has been awarded to the two best performing students of Mechanical Engineering students.
The first winner is Yesheneh Jejaw Mamo and the second winner is Alem Mohammed Shereta, the first female student winning this award.
History of ETMA
ETMA is an acronym standing for the annual Ethiopia Tadesse memorial award.
Who is Ethiopia Tadesse? W/o Ethiopia Tadesse was born from her mother w/o Yeruknesh Desta & her father ato Tadesse Woube in Gondar region specifically called Smada area in 1943. She was grown up in her family with absolute obedience and remarkable traits of goodness. When the fullness of the time has reached for marriage, she was legally married to her husband MWO Bulcha Debossie and become mother of 5 daughters and 3 sons. W/o. Ethiopia has been generous, caring, honest and genuine not only to her family but also to other kinsmen near, far and neighbors. She was also a God fearing mother. In her marriage, w/o Ethiopia had lived with joy and love with her family and seen 11 grand children from her legally married four daughters and two sons.
W/o Ethiopia together with her husband had conducted a decent life and honorably performed her part in contribution to the society begetting and up growing educated and patriotic citizens, till the last breathe of her soul at God’s will on Dec. 27, 2003
One of the core beliefs of w/o Ethiopia was educating children. With this motto, she could succeed in making all of her children into university graduates in the fields of medicine, engineering, science and business management. Thus, as memorial to Ethiopia Tadesse, ETMA is established with the initiative of her eldest daughter, Melesu Bulcha, and the latter’s son, Merdokios Teshome, to award students of excellence with best performance. The other objective behind this initiative is that ETMA shall encourage students and contribute towards creating competition among students so that they can discharge the most out of their talent and potential capacity in continuous pursuit of knowledge and wisdom. At this infant stage, ETMA is formed to award two best performing students of JU, JIT, Mechanical Engineering Department, who are fond of and can contribute to the development of their country. Candidates to ETMA are selected by Department Head and staff according to criteria jointly set
by ETMA and the Department.
