JU Board of Governors held its 51st Regular Meeting

The 51st Regular Meeting of JU Governing Board was conducted on Thursday, March 21, 2019 in the capital. The major agenda of the meeting were hearing the progress of and updates on two topical issues: Transformation of Jimma Medical Center (JMC) and Recruitment and selection of university president and a vice president.

International conference on engineering innovation held at JU

March 11, 2019: Jimma University, in collaboration with Texas Tech University, USA and GIZ organized an International Conference on Engineering Innovation in Ethiopia specifically emphasizing on Resource Sustainability and Infrastructure Improvements at Jimma Institute of Technology from 11th to 12th March, 2019.

March 10, 2019 : On behalf of the Jimma University community, we would like to express our deepest condolences to those who have lost their loved ones on Sunday’s tragic plane crash of Ethiopian Airlines flight ET-302 on regular scheduled flight to Nairobi, Kenya. May their soul rest in peace.

Prof. Mekonnen Assefa, JU’s veteran staff passes away

March 10, 2019: Jimma University is deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Professor Mekonnen Assefa, one of its veteran staff. Professor Mekonnen was one of the founders of the former Jimma Institute of Health Sciences now Jimma University. He served the University for more than 20 years, and was among the pioneers in launching and developing Community Based Education, the educational philosophy of Jimma University. In recognition of his exceptional contributions the University has awarded Prof. Mekonnen highest medal of honor.

Scientific Colloquium workshop conducted in Jimma University

March 8, 2019: Jimma University's Institute of Health by collaborating the Department of Epidemiology, Faculty of Public Health and the Health Professional Education Development center has organized scientific colloquia titled “Was Khaldi a scientist?”- based on apocryphal story of coffee discovery.

Sensitization workshop held on “ Sexual and reproductive health education: M-health intervention” at Jimma University.

March 7 2019: Jimma University in collaboration with Ipas-Ethiopia organized half-day M-health project launching ceremony to sensitize stakeholders and to take part actively throughout the implementation periods. The primary aim was too aware and promote the M-health project and to discuss with key and primary stakeholders to have smooth functioning and interventions.

Jimma University’s Ethiopian Evidence Based Health Care Centre conducts training in Ethiopian Public Health Institute, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Jimma University’s Ethiopian Evidence Based Health Care Centre conducted training on various methods of systematic review in Ethiopian Evidence Public Health Institute (EPHI) from 3 – 9 February, 2019 in Addis Ababa. This training covered – scoping review, rapid response review, grade using Gradepro software, policy brief and policy dialogue.

March 3, 2019: The Search and Selection Committee established to facilitate the selection and appointment of Jimma University’s President and Vice President for Administration and Student Affairs positions has held its first meeting today (March 3, 2019). 

Panel discussion held on “substance use and risky sexual behavior” at Jimma University.

March 1, 2019: Jimma University in collaboration Fayyaa Integrated Development Organization organized one-day panel discussion on substance use and risky sexual behavior among Jimma town public and private high schools and colleges. The primary aim of the panel discussion is to create awareness on the issues with primary stakeholders; High school directors, gender and HIV/AIDS/SRH focal persons, Jimma town education bureau, Jimma town health office and Fayyaa integrated development organization.
