Welcome to Jimma University website. Jimma University is the national pioneer in community based education of higher learning located 354 km away from the capital city of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa, in one of the great cultural cities in the nation, Jimma, with a land holding of 467 ha.
The university graduates innovative professionals through its community oriented educational philosophy in various fields at both graduate and undergraduate programs. It pursues cherished innovative community based educational philosophy to produce competent graduates who can solve the societal felt need. The educational philosophy is grounded in a deeply intellectual university with community as the extensive center for training, research and practical attachments.
The study practice at our university is dynamic and provides the academic tools, practical skills, and “real world” opportunities necessary to advance as leaders in their professions and their communities. We encourage active participation in an education that challenges critical thinking, provides career preparation, instills values, and inspires lifelong learning.

 From the  community based training program to  the development team training program , from agriculture to   technology , from Ethiopia’s   most established  medical and health sciences to  Horn of Africa  center of   excellence in health monitoring and evaluation, the success of the university’s  colleges, faculty and alumni has never before been as prominent and celebrated. Members of our faculty have received the highest recognition in their fields. Our alumni also claim a record of astonishing success, measured not simply by awards and prizes, contracts and contacts, but by the quality and scientific contribution to the national development and significance of their professional achievements.
Today, the university serves 33770 students in 52 undergraduate and 62 postgraduate programs in both regular and non-regular programs with more enrollments in the years to come.
