Approximately 2516 (2077 male + 439 Female) candidates received master’s and bachelor’s degrees during Saturday morning’s (July 04, 20 15) 2nd Round Commencement ceremony (which went on Oromia Television air ‘Live’) of Jimma University that drew more than 7,000 family members and friends, to the Mini Stadium in the Main Campus of the university.
Dr. Fikre Lemessa [President of JU] upon delivering the commencement address presented summary of annual performance report of the University. Acknowledging the unique lens through which each student encounters and engages the complex challenges demanded by the pursuit of a degree, Dr. Fikre praised the collective accomplishments of this year’s graduating class.
Guest of Honor to the event, W/o Aster Mamo, deputy prime minister for Good Governance and Reform Cluster and Minister of the Civil Service, echoed that assessment by recognizing the positive effect of educators on their students and identifying effective mentorship as an essential component of a healthy society. Looking to the future, W/o Aster advised graduates to honor the debt they owe to their educators by becoming committed, effective citizens themselves. She added that the enduring influence of the graduates ensures that society benefits from new generations of intellectual and creative talent and knowledge.
