The establishment of health management as a profession is of paramount importance to improving the health care system in Ethiopia and on the African continent.
The MHA program was developed as a collaborative effort of Jimma University, Yale University, the Ethiopian Federal Ministry of Health, and the William Jefferson Clinton Foundations AIDS Initiative (CHAI) as the first graduate degree-level program to train health care managers in Ethiopia.
The MHA program is housed in the Health Planning and Health Services Management Department at Jimma University in the Faculty of Public Health. The department includes Health Service Management, Health Economics and Financing, Public Health Laws and Ethics, and Health Policy Analysis.
The MHA program is a two-year executive training program that integrates didactic learning, team-based training, executive practice, and research. It is designed for professionals that will actively hold positions as hospital chief executive officers (CEOs) while receiving on-site training every four months at Jimma University.
