The College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, co-founder of the Jimma University, is dedicated to advancing agricultural development through training, knowledge generation and service delivery in the country. To achieve its objectives, the college offers both undergraduate and post-graduate programmes of various disciplines. The college is comprised of five departments namely, the department of Horticulture & Plant Sciences, Animal Sciences, Agricultural Economics & Extension, Natural Resources Management and Post-harvest Management, and School of Veterinary Medicine. In collaboration with the Ethiopian-Netherlands partnership, Ethiopian Horticulture Agency (EHA), and Ethiopian Horticulture Producers and Exporters Association (EHPEA), the college has also launched “Industry Oriented MSc in Horticulture” program, which is specifically designed to respond to the training needs of Horticulture industry in the country. This training program is unique in its nature in that it creates a flexible new learning environment which is different from campus based and distance education.
Mission of the college is to create a learning community in which students at all levels, and their faculty mentors, can engage in the pursuit of knowledge across and between a broad range of disciplines in the horticulture, agriculture, natural resources, post harvest, and veterinary medicine. The college has also well organized ICT center, library, and laboratories. It offers students a wide variety of courses and programs, through its innovative community based education. JUCAVM has good linkage and cooperation with various public and private national institutions with whom we work in training, research and community services. It is also a place where you can smoothly get internet access through its well organized wire and wireless connections. The educational activities of the College are directed towards effective learning. Modern teaching aids are used for efficient delivery. All classes, seminar and meeting rooms, and auditorium are equipped with LCDs and computers and connected to the internet. The college library operates round-the clock.
