The 106th International Women’s Day ( March 8) is celebrated at the newly built conference hall situated in the main campus of the University in the presence of top management bodies, senate members of the University, invited guests and all women staff members of the university on March 15/2017.
On the occasion, Dr. Asnaketch Demisse, Director of the Office of the University’s women’s and youth affair made a welcoming speech. On her speech, she briefly narrated the historic moments when and why women’s day began to be celebrated across the globe. She also urged all women to do all their best to show their equality with men practically. She lastly reminded the women to buy the bond of the renaissance dam so that the dam will be a reality in the shortest time possible. She then called upon Professor Fikre, JU president, to make an opening speech.
Professor Fikre in his part welcomed all those who attended the occasion and appreciated the office and all the concerned bodies for organizing such a splendid event. He mentioned the efforts that the university is doing to encourage female students and staff members to come to the fore and play the leading role in all aspects. He finally assured that the university will do all its level best to continue meeting the demands required by the women.
The day is made to be entertaining by different activities, such as short dramas, poem reciting, sporting shows, all performed by female students and staff members. The occasion ended up by awarding prizes for the best female performers in academic studies, leading positions and other activities.
