One health Central & Eastern Africa (OHCEA)Ethiopia project officein Jimma University conducted a case competition on the title “brucellosis disease” on January 28th, 2017 at JUCAVM hall. Itis organized for members of Jimma University One Health Innovative Student’s Club (JUOHISC). The sessionwas opened by a well come speech of Professor Kifle Woldemichael, the focal person.On his opening speech appreciated and thank all the participants for coming to the case competitionand clarified as One Health is an interdisciplinary collaboration that aims at mitigating risks to human health arising from microorganisms (potentially pathogens) present in nonhuman animal species. Interaction of humans and livestock with wildlife exposes them to the risk of pathogen spillover.
On the occasion,The competitionwas detainedmore on; what brucellosis disease is in human and animal, why it isan important issue over other diseases, the way it transmits, symptoms, risk factors and how animals/people/ doget infected with brucellosis.The case completion scoring criteria and levels of performance were listed by the panel of judges. The criteria were basic information on the brucellosis disease, the competentuse of fact, examples, OH approach, presentation style and answering.The participants elaborated on gaps in understanding of brucellosis control in the country and the experiences of others countries.
Therefore, thecompetition enclosed a wide range of very interesting and critical items relating brucellosis disease and it’s preventing strategies. The participants were also participated by raising & asking both groups on some areas related to the disease. This has helped the judges to evaluate which group has well addressed the audience’s questions. At the end of the debate session, the judges forwarded the result of the debate and award was given for the winning group by prof. KifleWoldemariamwhich was followed by a closing remark.
