Higher Education Quality Assurance Training workshop for quality assurance head of public universities in Ethiopia has been kicked off at Jimma Univeristy. The president of Jimma University, Dr. Fikre Lemessa has opened the workshop. In his opening speech he stated that stated that the training is very crucial for the improvement of Ethiopian higher education quality assurance and quality audit. He further added that such training are a land mark in the quality assurance of higher education as it opens an opportunities to learn from the experienced universities in Germany. The training is organized in collaboration with DAAD REAL Almuni and the trainers are Dr. Anette Koster and Dr. Mike Kuria from University of Duisburg, Germany and Daystar University in Nairobi Kenya. Professor Fekadu Beyene President of Wollega Univeristy and REAL Ethiopian Chairperson in his key note address stated that speech stated that education in Ethiopia dates back to fourth century. Quality in higher education is the most important factor in the country’s endeavors of capacity building for realization of the development goals. He further noted that Ethiopia has begun implementing the five years growth and transformation plan that also encompasses quality assurance at all levels of education. The training lasts for three days and it will throw lights on issues such as quality in higher education, management of change in HEI from quality assurance to quality management: good practice at the university of Duisburg Germany, quality assurance and quality audits the East African Experience, institutionalization/implementation of Quality audit, quality management and quality control at higher education institution are some of the areas touched upon in the training and the trainee have developed their own action plan on how to put to use what they have gained from this training at their respective university.
