Message from the Dean
Business and Economics College (BECO) was openedunder Jimma University in 2000. Since then the college is dedicated to advancing business and economic development through training, knowledge generation and service delivery in the country. To achieve its objectives, the college offers both undergraduate and post-graduate programs in various disciplines. The college is comprised of four departments namely, the department of Banking and Finance, Accounting and Finance, Economics, and Management. The college runs regular, evening, and weekend programs. In collaboration with Alliance for Better Health (ABH), the college has also launched off-campus MBA program in Addis Ababa, which is specifically designed to respond to the training needs of business community and industry sector in the country. This training program is unique in its nature in that it is equipped with state-of-art technology for course delivery and e-library. It alsocreates flexible new learning environment, which is different from campus based training programs.
The mission of the college is to create a learning community in which students, at all levels and their faculty mentors, can engage in the pursuit of knowledge across and between a broad range of disciplines in Banking and Finance, Accounting and Finance, Economics, and Management The college offers to students a wide variety of courses and programs, through its innovative community based education. BECO has launched good relations and cooperation with various public and private national institutions with whom the Collegeis working together in training, research and community services. We have also established links with NYENRODE New Business School of Amsterdam (The Netherlands) and Kangwan National University(S.Korea).
BECO has undergone substantial change and has become a wonderful place to study and work. The educational activities of the College are directed towards effective learning. E-learning materials are used for efficient delivery of scientific knowledge, skills, and excellence. All classes, seminar, and meeting rooms are equipped with LCDs and computers, which makes them smart classes. Departmental and faculty meetings have been conducted to enhance the teaching and learning process of the college on regular basis. Awarding best teacher, students and administrative annually has become a culture in order to make teaching-learning process more competitive and result oriented.
BECO has finalized preparation to open a new Undergraduate program in “Hospitality and Tourism Management” in 2014/15 academic year. Moreover, the college plans to launch its journal “Ethiopian Journal of Business and Economics” in the next academic year. The college also aspires to open Entrepreneur Skill Development Center in the near future.
The College has a warm welcome any suggestions regarding our training programs and services, so as to enable us provide more relevant and high impact programs and community services that are targeted to meet and satisfy the nation’s desperate development needs.
