About the Department of Banking and Finance

College of Business and Economics is one of the colleges opened in 1997 as a Faculty before the inauguration of the university. Since then the college has been running regular and evening programs in applied business and economics and, regular and summer in business teachers’ fields. The department of Banking and Insurance was established in the year 2005 and train business teachers in the field of Banking and Insurance which is one of business teachers’ field.
The department has been contributing a lot in training academically qualified teachers in the field. However, at present the department has reframed to Banking and Finance and new curriculum has been prepared in order to produce professional who is equipped with Banking and Finance skills that ensures organizational needs of professionals for their success in highly competitive business environment.
To achieve this objective, courses are sequenced in a logical manner and proceeds from basic courses to advanced levels. Instructional methodologies permit the learner to participate actively in the classroom and to receive feedback that strengthen and reinforces learning and measurement progress.
As the university strives to meet the human resource needs of the country for overall development, it considers educational relevance, high quality training, applied research etc. Accordingly, the department aimed at educating professionals, who are skillful and knowledgeable in Banking, Insurance and Finance, more over the program is aimed at holding and even initiating new, competent academic members to the department through increasing their earnings. The department has qualified staff members. Although the department currently provides three years degree program in regular, the department has planned to start the post graduate program in the future.

General Objective:

The general objective of the program is to produce competent and responsive banking and finance professionals who can address the community's problems through innovative and practical means. Broadly speaking, to contribute for the development financial sector.

Specific objectives:

  • To produce competent graduates with updated knowledge and skill in the field of Banking, Insurance and other Finance sectors.
  • To fill the gap between the theory & practical aspects of Banking and Finance
  • To produce professionals who provide consultancy service in the area of banking, insurance and other finance sector.
  • To create and develop linkage with various financial institutions such as Banks, insurance and other Finance companies and research institutions.
  • Contribute to societal development through the training of responsive professionals and the conduct of high-quality relevant research.


Department of Banking and Finance is committed to promote the advancement of knowledge through teaching, research and community services in the area of Banking and Finance. The department aims at offering a unique educational environment where students can study theories of the discipline, put them into practice and improve their analytical skills that will facilitate and improve their decision-making ability as the financial managers of future. Through a process of effective education provided for our privileged students, we aim to provide them with a thorough understanding of the ways and methods within which financial institutions operate, and with the structure and operational principles of the markets in the modern financial industry.


To be a leading model for all who seek intellectual vitality in a learner-centered and socially responsible academic community in banking and finance.

Management Structure

The department is administered by department head and in most cases decision-makings are made by the departmentcouncil which is made up of the department’s academic staff. In addition minor decisions are made by the department head.
