Highlights of HIV/AIDS prevention and control Coordinating Office

The HIV/AIDS Coordinating office was established in 2002 with the following
vision, mission and objectives.

Vision:

  • To see HIV free prosperous Ethiopia

Mission:

  • To make the University and surrounding community healthy and supportive environment for students, staff and the surrounding community by providing comprehensive HIV/AIDS prevention and control services.

Goal:

  • To integrate HIV/AIDS related activities as a core strategy in all processes of the University's function- training, research and service.

General objective:

  • To create an enabling environment for the prevention and control of the HIV epidemic in the University and surrounding community and to play a leading role in the search for effective preventive and control strategies that can be applicable to the Ethiopian society at large

Specific objectives:

  • To reduce the prevalence of HIV among the university community to the level lower than the General population (<2%)
  • To provide different HIV/AIDS preventive interventions to the university community in particular and the surrounding community in general
  • To provide care and support for people affected by HIV/AIDS or vulnerable to it.
  • To build the capacity of HIV/AIDS Coordinating office, Anti-AIDS clubs, student clinic and service providers through material & supply support as well as training.
  • To mobilize resources for HIV/AIDS intervention by creating links with donor agencies.
  • To strengthen research undertakings on HIV/AIDS issues
  • To improve leadership in HIV/AIDS programs and enhance monitoring and evaluation system for sustainable intervention.
